Pre Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP)

PrEP infographic for Prevention pagePrEP (Pre Exposure Prophylaxis) is a once-a-day pill for HIV negative individuals that can help to significantly reduce HIV infection if taken as directed. While PrEP has been proven to be very effective, if taken as directed, regular condom use is still strongly recommended because PrEP does not prevent other Sexually Transmitted Infections/Diseases. Those individuals interested in taking PrEP will be screened for HIV and kidney function.

Washington State is the only state to offer PrEP medication financial assistance for those individuals who qualify. For more information go to PrEP Drug Assistance Program.

The Center for Disease Control (CDC) has recommended guidelines for providers to help them prescribe PrEP. For more information about CDC’s PrEP guidelines, visit their website http://www.cdc.gov/hiv/basics/prep.html.
