National HIV Vaccine Awareness Day

National HIV Awareness Day Logo

Did you know that currently there is no vaccine to prevent HIV?  May 18th is National HIV Vaccine Awareness Day. Although none yet exists, some of the nation’s best researchers are working hard to develop a safe and effective vaccine for HIV. (Please note that HIV vaccines currently in trials do not contain HIV and cannot cause HIV infection.) Would you like to learn more about current HIV prevention and vaccine research? Be The Generation: is a campaign created by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases with the goals of increasing overall awareness and understanding of HIV/AIDS and to create a dialogue that supports future prevention and vaccine research. Here is more information on the campaign, including video testimonials of community members talking about their experiences with HIV/AIDS medical research.
