Michael (Mick) Kaniecki is our January artist for PCAF’s art gallery. A Tacoma artist, Mick has worked as a designer and design/drawing instructor. He maintains an interest and intrigue in the expressive power of line drawings and mark-making which he continues to explore primarily in charcoal, pencil, ink, and collage.
This month’s series is of our Nisqually Wildlife Refuge near Olympia. After making tiny (2″ x 3″) pencil sketches during a rainy day at the refuge, Mick headed home to create his paper cut collages. Sparse, clean, and in a surprising palette, the series speak of winter and chilled air.
